Luis Vaz de Camoes

Together with Fernando Pessoa, is the most admired portuguese poet.
Wrote the famous "Lusiadas". Lived in the 16th century.

Amor é fogo que arde sem se ver
(Love is fire that burns without being seen)

Amor é fogo que arde sem se ver;
É ferida que dói e não se sente;
É um contentamento descontente;
É dor que desatina sem doer;

É um não querer mais que bem querer;
É solitário andar por entre a gente;
É nunca contentar-se de contente;
É cuidar que se ganha em se perder;

É querer estar preso por vontade;
É servir a quem vence, o vencedor;
É ter com quem nos mata lealdade.

Mas como causar pode seu favor
Nos coraçes humanos amizade,
Se tão contrário a si é o mesmo Amor?

Ricardo

Two years ago, in that memorable match of the Euro 2004, he was our hero. tomorrow, I hope he (and all the others) has an inspired day.

and by the way, let's hope that our Ronaldo is ok to play. fingers crossed!

Some days...

...from the moment you wake up, you feel that everything will go wrong...

The battle of Nuremberg

C.Ronaldo leaves the field crying, after trying to play injured for 25 minutes. Hopefully, he will recover in time to play against England.

Yesterday's game (shall I call it a game?) made me suffer from beginning till end, but in the end I felt pride for being portuguese. Our players played like heroes, fought until the last minute to keep the advantage of 1-0, even though always playing with one player less.

A lot of discussion goes on about whether Portugal played fair or not. I don't think we did; I don't even think we played good football. However, under the circumstances, I think we did a very good heroic game. Let's not forget that Holland provoked from beginning, starting by that (intentional, I would risk to say) entry of Boulahrouz against C.Ronaldo that left him injured from the 5th minute of game. However, C. Ronaldo had his revenge by participating in the goal of Portugal, brilliantly scored once again by Maniche.

It is useless to focus on this or that player or on who played better or worse. The truth is that yesterday our team made a dream come true out of what looked completely impossible, especially by the end of the 1st half. We have a saying in Portugal, which translates into something like this: "What you want, you can". Yesterday our players showed it: they wanted badly to win and they had their victory.

Marco Van Basten disappointed me for what he said after the game. Did Portugal make theatre? WE didn't play fair? Or…Didn't the Dutch player who hit C.Ronaldo deserve to be expelled already when he did it? Or…What is lack of fair-play: wasting some time if you're winning and playing 10 against 11 or... not returning the ball to the opponent, when the opponent puts the ball out for assistance to an injured player…Or intentionally injuring a good dangerous player?
yes, Figo also headbutt a Dutch player, it's true. but how many Dutch players did the same to portuguese players? Van der Saar stepped on Simao's hand; Boulahrouz hit Figo in the face (and injured C.Ronaldo); and two other players pushed Deco and Petit to the floor....and it is convenient not to forget that by the 7th minute of game, Holland had already 2 yellow cards while Portugal had none. So, who started it then?

O que eu tambem nao entendo

in english, the title means "What I also don't understand".
the truth is, if you don't speak portuguese, you really won't understand this post. but next time I'll try to go back to english language.
These are the lyrics of a beautiful song of a brazilian band named JOTA QUEST - one of my favorite songs in portuguese. It talks about love, love, love, love and love. Beautiful... I'll just translate the second verse: " To love is not always being certain; it is to accept that no one is perfect to no one; it is to be yourself and not needing to pretend; it is to try to forget and not being able to run away." Beautiful....

Portugal 2 - Mexico 1

Mad or celebrating?
I would say you should be mad, because although we won, we played very bad football today...

Hope the next game will be better. To win Holland or Argentina, we really need to be good.

Portugal 2 - Iran 0

What the hell is this? isn't this worth a red card?????
and Deco gets a yellow card for doing much less than this?
A fair win of Portugal in a game ruled by a, many times, unfair referee.
Amazing goal of Deco!!!
And Figo was again great!

Portugal 1 - Angola 0 !!!!!!!!!

Portugal didn't play as good as they are capable of, but....don't tell we didn't deserve to win. we had several opportunities of scoring; Angola had only one good opportunity. We didn't play magically, but we controlled the game and winning was more than fair.

Figo! Always and forever the best! The man of the game! 33 (or 34???) years old and still making magic in the field. thank you!

Image change

The "Lusitana Paixao" blog has suffered an image change to wear the portuguese colors with our team during the World Cup 2006.

Quando joga Portugal, jogamos todos!

Nervous, nervous, nervous....less than 24 hours to the 1st World Cup game, against Angola...
Força, Portugal!!!!! Uma bandeira em cada janela, uma bandeira em cada blog! :)
