A promise?

Maybe it is too early to start thinking he will be a top tennis player. but...I am getting more and more impressed with his results. Gastao Elias is only 15 years old (still under 16) and he already has a very good ITF juniors (under 18) ranking.
but the reason for posting this today is that yesterday he was 2nd in the Under 16 European Tennis Championship. Apparently, he could also have won the final (the result was 7/6, 0/6, 6/3).
anyway, unless anything very bad happens in his career, like a serious injuring, he seems to be on the way to become the best portuguese tennis player we ever had.

Talvez....(Jose Luis Peixoto)

"Penso: talvez o céu seja um mar grande de água doce e talvez a gente não ande debaixo do céu mas em cima dele; talvez a gente veja as coisas ao contrário e a terra seja como um céu e quando a gente morre, quando a gente morre, talvez a gente caia e se afunde no céu."

"I think: maybe the sky is a big sea of fresh water and maybe we don't walk below the sky but on top of it; maybe we see things upside down and the earth is like a sky and when we die, when we die, maybe we fall and sink in the sky."

Another part of the book "Nenhum olhar". I found it so beautiful that I couldn't resist to put it here.

School times part 1

One upon a time, it was the end of the 80's/beginning of the 90's and I was a little "pre-adolescent" girl. Today, when listening to the song Nothing's gonna change my love for you (of Glenn Medeiros), which I loved at that time, I remembered about this place:

Colegio Marista de Carcavelos, the place where I grew up. From the age of 6 till 14 years old, this was the place where I spent most of my time. I have great memories of the times spent here.
And, I wonder why....everytime I listen to that song, I remember of this school... and about the parties where boys and girls still danced together and romantic music was still part of the playlist...
here goes a piece of the lyrics:

If I had to live my life without you near me
The days would all be empty
The nights would seem so long
With you I see forever oh so clearly
I might have been in love before
But it never felt this strong

Our dreams are young
And we both know they'll take us
Where we want to go

Hold me now
Touch me now
I don't want to live without you

Nothing's gonna change my love for you
You ought know by now how much I love you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your love

Jose Luis Peixoto

I had already read one of his books and some of his poems. however, this book ("Nenhum Olhar") still surprised me so positively....the way he combines his poetic way of writing with the novel itself, without making the reader get dispersed in the text....is brilliant.
Jose Luis Peixoto was born in 1974 and this book was published in 2000 - which means he was 25/26 when he wrote it - no one could tell a 25 year old "boy" wrote such a masterpiece of portuguese literature....
I hope this novel is already or will be translated soon. in the mean time, I leave one of the thoughts of the book, repeated several times along the novel, that I kept memory of....it makes us think about it:
"I think: maybe sufferance is thrown to crowds in big amounts and most of it falls on top of some people while very little or nothing falls on top of the others."

Unforgettable

The dream is over, but no one can take away from the Selecçao what they have already done for Portugal's football. We will never forget!

Let me go home

Today I feel like this:

Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome
But I wanna go home

Maybe surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel alone
I just wanna go home
I miss you, you know

Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I'm lucky I know
But I wanna go home
I've got to go home

(Michael Bublé, "Home")

Ricardo again!!!!!

This is how a goalkeeper breaks records. And turns into a legend! 40 years later, Ricardo is the hero of the match where Portugal finally made it to the semi-finals of the world cup again. Thank you, thank you, thank you! :-)
